Here for you is another work from of my obsession with maps and symbols. On the familiar map of the New York City Subway (the April 2014 edition) I transferred some of the icons of the Nineties, beginning with the medal of the New York City Marathon. It might be considered also a collage, even if I didn't use actual paper clips but only the images of the icons. Other images are: a label from Brooks Brothers, matches from Cafè Lalo on the West Side, a pair of Ray Ban glasses, and the logo of the St.Moritz Hotel, in Central Park South, that is now the Ritz Carlton. Also there is the logo of the Tre Merli, the iconic restaurant that used to be in West Broadway from the 1980's, closed in 2013, and now reopened in 12th Street, in the Meatpacking district.

My latest endeavour: I paint on maps. First I put on them several layers of varnish, to make them heavy, textured, then I paint a text that comes in my mind, regarding the experience of human kind on that particular piece of earth. Through my maps I want to study the relationship between the names of people, facts, memories (both individual and collective) and the land and its representation. In response to every word, every symbol we perceive, the impressions we each have vary. And, most of all, I want to express my unconditional love for the United States of America. Every map is a unique work, on which I have spent many hours, both for the varnish and for the paint. In these hours I have concentrated myself on the territory and I was in touch with the people described by the map itself.
