This painting was inspired by a photograph of the artists mother, found on Facebook. The embrace in the photo triggered this ferocious painting; as the two lovers stare back at the viewer with a scowl, they grab each other desperately. The viewer is made to feel intrusive, as they are interrupting an intimate moment. The sickly pinks and greens merge with the pastels in this painting to create an uneasy mood.

Arianna Casado is expected to receive her BFA from Kutztown University in 2019. Casado’s work revolves around the critique and exploration of selfie-culture, while fusing digital processes with physical oil-painting in order to create boundaries and break them. Her work has been featured in the annual Crosscurrents show at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Philadelphia, leading to a scholarship-award. She is currently accepted into the MFA program at PAFA and will be attending in the Fall of 2019.
