About The Artwork
Emotional and minimalist balance. It is a painting that starts from the basic form in a high contrast environment, which carries many thin layers of acrylic pigment diluted in casein. I am seduced by the transparency and brilliance of the white atmosphere that breaks with the dark line of the horizon and ends in the polygonal shape that supports the breakwater. Annabel Andrews was born in the Isle of Wight in 1940 now lives and works in El Escorial near Madrid Spain, where the colour, light and volumes of the mountains inspire her work. As also her friendship with the late Spanish artists Pablo Palazuelo and Jose Guerrero. By preparing her own canvases with home made casein glue base and zinc white the work is light and luminous ready for applying acrylic colours.
