About The Artwork
I'm intrigued with urban spaces. I look out for unique places in a country, a city or neighborhoods I visit. The scenes found are from exploring spaces that are ordinary and familiar to the inhabitants' lives. These places are also near where I live and work. I notice a time during the day or season that makes what is familiar extraordinary. My observations create a new perspective that inspired a fresh awareness about being in the present. I noticed a new image I had never seen before. I hope the viewer feels a sense of place and an extraordinary view of something so seemingly mundane. I chose my style because I wanted to capture the light and shadow of the early morning or late afternoon sunset. I use a layered approach to my painting. I start with monochromatic underpainting. Then slowly build up layers with glazing and some impasto brush work for texture and color intensity.
