Haryanto “Bletuk” Gunawan was born in 1961 in Jakarta. He had his formal education in Fachhochschule Rheinland Plaiz, Mainz, Germany, (1982 to 1986), majoring in visual communication. For many decades, Bletuk has spent his carrier in the world of visual communication. He started as an Art Director for Burger House, My Place Discotheque and Rest Indonesia during the period of 1987 to 1989. Afterwards, Bletuk then founded, owned and led a communication and advertisement agency, PT Univers Promosindo as their CEO from 1989 to 2015. During this period, he also became the Managing Director of an Indonesian art magazine, Visual Art, from 2003 to 2007. Furthermore, Bletuk also became one of the founders and owners of an international contemporary art magazine, C-Arts, from 2007 to 2012. However, Bletuk has always felt an artistic apprehension that was suppressed inside, and this requires attention and materialization. Many feelings and emotions that have been experienced in his life precipitate into a realization that emotion is an energy that keeps on evolving into new dynamics in many facets of the world that keeps on moving, both horizontally and vertically. All of them are so vastly rich and these emotions are expressed in language of visualizations, as dots, lines, shapes, colors and texture. Language of motion and rhythm. Bletuk has expressed all of these emotions in both of his solo exhibitions at Ciputra Artpreneur Jakarta, Color [e]Motions in 2016 and Spirit [e]Motions in 2018. His works from both exhibitions has been appreciated and won the accolades of many renowned art collectors from Indonesia and abroad. Bletuk also has created many works of art that are displayed in the public spaces. These works were created not merely as esthetic elements to complement a space, but purely as creations of an artist that are placed artistically in public spaces. According to his motives in creating art, he would like to engage a larger audience in order to convey the messages or expressions from his constantly changing emotions to more people---thus, encouraging the audience to put their own emotions into order, for a better life. His works in public spaces are displayed throughout Jakarta in RSPI Bintaro; Pondok Indah Office Tower, Pondok Indah Residence Tower: Kartika, Maya, and Amala, Intercontinental Hotel Pondok Indah, Wacana Bhakti Seminary, Pejaten; and Christ the King Church, Pejompongan.
