About The Artwork
Depicted here is a figure in flamboyant colonial dress out of place in the harsh Australian landscape. His head is replaced with the head of a Trichomyrmex Destructor, an invasive ant species that easily becomes established and dominant in new habitat due to traits such as aggression toward other ant species, little aggression toward members of its own species, efficient recruitment, and large colony size. It has spread throughout the world via human transport systems, particularly shipping ironically just like the British in the18th and 19th centuries.
