About The Artwork

The title of this painting, "Just for One Day", is from the David Bowie song, "Heroes". Originally, I'd planned on painting something that was inspired by the amazing sunrises that we've been seeing lately in LA. The morning I painted it, I woke up at 6am to a brilliantly red sky and literally jumped out of bed, put pants on and went outside to experience it. In the end, the way the colors played together created something much darker and deeper than a sunrise. Up close you can see murmurs of pinks, peaches and purples, but they're like a memory. Once it was done, gazing at the painting took my mind to an escapist place; a secret rendezvous in an enchanted forest at midnight. A heightened moment with a soulmate. The ethereal magic we feel when we look into a lover's eyes and see beyond our humanity. Brevity, depth, joy, but also, as many of you have perceived, also great loss, fear and sadness. All true, because these intense instances in our lives are always brimming with both extremes, and our incredible abilities to feel and perceive allow us to turn them around in our mind, hold, love, hate and ponder them as prismatic experiences. Includes frame.

www.lauraviapiano.com Laura Viapiano (b. 1981, Buffalo, NY) is an artist based in Western New York. An abstract expressionist, Laura’s oil paintings explore the power of perspective on shaping meaning and experience for the individual. Using plastic squeegees, Laura creates her abstract paintings through a series of loading, pulling, blending and scraping oil paint directly onto and off of the canvas. Paired with linguistically ambiguous titles, her layered color fields blossom into a microcosm of color, texture and language that invite each individual viewer to experience a unique relationship with what is merely paint on a surface. Laura’s work is meant to create an access point for people to enter what mindfulness and meditation often refer to as the observer state, giving viewers an opportunity to notice and examine the lens through which they create a relationship with the painting. Which meaning do they interpret from the title? How does that meaning affect their perception of the colors or textures observed? Is the emotional impact positive or negative? Why? By employing the abstract and the ambiguous in tandem, Laura’s work hopes to highlight the human desire to seek out patterns and create a personal narrative through the interpretation of subtle, learned symbolism. A native of Buffalo, New York, Laura lives and works in Western New York. Her paintings are collected internationally, and can be seen at various galleries & events throughout the US and beyond.
