About The Artwork
From the series in collaboration with my children. She gets to make choices. She made a rainbow out of purples. Later wept when her Knight was taken, she hurt for the death of her horse. I love how emotionally invested she was when she first played chess. Her brother learned the rules in an after school class. A day or so before she had played with the chessboard I had left set up in the living room. The imagination of a Queen and her King, living in a Castle, knights on horses and pawns all around. It was just imaginative play, with the Knight horses cantering across the great open meadows of the sofa and the Queen holding court on the board. These are the constructs of childhood and learning. This is me mothering.
