About The Artwork

My works always evolve around the research into the theme of “Archeologia della communicazione”. This work is a getting together of archetypical symbols, colour and alchemical metals. You can see the circle, the Uroboro, the symbol of the snake that bites its own tail. To me this stands for “every end has a new and ever slightly better beginning”. And, if you wish, there are many more symbols for you to discover. Typical for my work is its transparancy. You can see through the distinct layers. This gives a sensation of depth and evokes the awareness of time, a sense of various layers of time in a lifetime and through generations.

I was born in Italy, in a small seaside resort on the Adriatic coast. After graduating in Italy, I continued my studies at het Academy of Arts in Utrecht in The Netherlands, where my special attention went to Monumental Art. For over thirty years I have lived and worked as a full time professional artist in this country. My work is exhibited in various European countries and is found in both public and private collections all over the world. In 2011 I was invited to take part in the 54th International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale. For many years, the Alfabeto Immaginario has been the theme of my works and my conceptual thinking. I was inspired by words and letters on ancient walls. Seeing them gradually fade away by sun, wind and rain leaving traces of form and colour. Through time, other texts were written over the old traces, and also these disappeared to give way to other letters, words or even posters. To me this symbolises “il passaggio del tempo”, the transition of time”. It is the biological tempo, the rhythm of life, that each of us can feel. Therefore in my work you will discover entire letters and characters, or bits and pieces of them, as an archeology of life and communication. In my works you may find the Uroboro, the abstraction of the serpent that holds its own tail, the circle. This symbolises “eterno ritorno”, the cyclic time. Beyond every end lies a new and fresh start. In the last century, the five pointed star was an important graphic element. It is used in various ideologies all over the world. Amongst others, it represents the five continents. With the new millennium the important symbols have lost their meanings. They disappear. The five pointed star changes, it transmutes. The five points disintegrate, in search of new space.
