About The Artwork
This painting, a riff on two specific pages from Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick, notes the heavy, bloody weight of the novel, its fluctuating voices and rhythms. It is one of a large series of drawing/paintings and mixed media collages (2016-present) inspired by specific books: Moby Dick, Mason&Dixon by Pynchon, Infinite Jest by Wallace, Tristram Shandy by Sterne, White Guard by Bulgakov, Mrs. Dalloway by Woolf, and other texts that are not books, including product packages and advertising. I enjoy making these and would be delighted to take commissions for a drawing or collage of any size inspired by a particular book, specific page of a book, or any other text (signs, advertisements, Wikipedia pages, etc.) of your choice.
