About The Artwork

My work in general is about women suppression in Islamic societies. This painting Paris expresses the image of immigrants voicing for Shariah law in EU while still keeping women under black burqa though living in a western society.

Unlike her earlier work, Xandria’s new work is more minimalist and tends to express her personal life including growing up in a conversative society, suppression and abuse. By overlapping innocence and silence with the power of religion and authority, and portrayal of contracting mutiny in herself, her art expects people to decode her hidden emotional suffering. Xandria’s identity is a space with minimum means of expression and maximum effect. Visuality in her work is not just the description of reality but the feelings that are mediated by this reality. She strives to achieve the maximum effect by using the minimum means of expression. In her geometric abstraction, the rhythm is conveyed through interrelation of the empty space and the repetition of a singular geometric shape. The empty space, where the eye first to omit and then to linger on, is the true space where the pure, minimal design touches the spiritual aspect of Zen meditation. Her previous work explored the relationship between her struggle for individuality and the representation of emotions through color and shape. Her style then was characterized by a shift of high passion, spontaneity, and belief in freedom of expression. Due to being trapped between two universes, she unconsciously encoded darkness and secrecy behind the brightness and serenity in her work. In them she paired ugliness with beauty, torment with comfort, anger with compliance and anguish with hope.
