Humphrey Mosoti is a Kenyan born in 1970 in Ikenye village, Masaba South district, Kisii County. At School he had several overriding artistic interests among them: Drawing, Painting, Calligraphy, Clay modelling and Sculpture. Adventure seemed to combine elements of them all. In 1986, Humphrey tried his hand on a paint brush and discovered his creative genius. It was then that he truly committed himself into the adventure of becoming an artist. In 1990 he settled in Nairobi as a self employed artist. Trying his hand on signage, gradually elevated him to a higher level of a skilled painter, illustrator and sign writer. In 1995, Humphrey started doing portrait art. He has since been commissioned to paint several portraits of senior government officials, the clergy, corporate directors and other international distinguished personalities and icons, including the late professor Wangari Mathai, Nelson Mandela, Kofi Anan, Barrack Obama and many others. He has also done murals in many colleges, schools, churches, hospitals and hotels. Humphrey has also ventured into other forms of art. His work is mainly figurative in semi-abstract and abstract forms and depicts life in a traditional and mordern abstract context. Mosoti takes his inspiration from an African woman 's everyday life. His works has been sold and showcased in many parts of the world. Mostly - Great Britain, USA, Australia , Greece, Italy, China and Scotland. In 2002, Humphrey discovered his unique identity in unique media, which classifies him beyond just an artist - Turning Canvas into banana fibre motif and Primer sketching on them enhancing a textural effective finished artwork. Unique sorted sand mounted on board, creating authentic African background on a piece of work. This identifies MOSOTI as a genius innovative, resilient and adventurous self-taught artist. Humphrey has worked with other artists, most recently being at the National Museum of Kenya Art Studio. His work has been group exhibited in the contemporary East African Art.
