About The Artwork
A couple of friends went on a holiday to Rhode Island and posted various photos on Facebook. This painting is a result of one photo posted one of their Facebook pages. I like the simplicity of the scene and the evocation of picnic memories. I wanted to be there. To smell and green landscape and the sea air and to take in the various shades of green. Postcript: the friend who posted the original photo says she thinks it was taken on Spectacle Island and not Peddocks Island. Sigh. I think the painting remains with the original title. The misnaming of the title just adds to the story of the painting. Note the artwork is priced to ship stretched on canvas in a crate. The price is much less if the canvas is unstretched and rolled in a tube. it is a simple and inexpensive thing to get a picture framer to stretch the canvas onto a frame. I use this method a lot. It reduces costs for artist and collector. If you prefer to have the artwork stretched on a frame and shipped in a crate then I am happy to do that.

I am a colourist. My work explores colour balance, colour contrast and colour relationships. The results are strong vibrant works through to works that are minimalist, subtle and subdued. There are recurring themes of starkness, aloneness, isolation and otherness that reflect my lived experience. While much of my work involves acrylic on canvas and board, I embrace collage and digital painting, mixed media, watercolour and sculpture. I seek to engage with viewers, inviting exploration of the creative process, patterns and markings. Sometime the engagement entails humour. I would like viewers of my work to understand mediums and their meanings.
