Reared in Fire No. 2 (Sprachschmiede), Edition 1/10 Painting

Rather than focusing on the artist’s life as does ‘Reared in Fire No. 1’, this companion piece, an acoustic reading of which is found at http://www.ottolaske.com/poems/p_g_asg_sprachschmiede.mp3, was inspired by the poetic lines ‘I look into the flame(s) of my ancestry’s smithy’ and ‘my smithies were the cities’. In concentrating on the image of fire in both of its meanings (of ancestral and personal fires), the work shows ‘grosse Lichttűrme der Nacht’ (large towers of light rising into the night) rising from a blue-violet underground. The impression created is one of conflagration whose vertical rise is counteracted by black energies emerging from the middle left which seem to transform into a grimace of foreboding on the upper right. The artist views his life as an outcome of forces far beyond his own reach, both historical and social, that shaped himself and his work. His own passion is submerged in the fires of the historical period in which he existed. The work is printed on Hot Press Fine Art Smooth Bright White paper (an acid free, 100% cotton rag media with a bright textured finish, yielding an extremely high color gamut and black density). It is signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by a CoA, and shipped without hanging hardware, in a very sturdy tube protected against folding and puncture.
