This plays on the idea that although we transform in many ways throughout time - repetition is inevitable. The energy that drives new things into the present is based on what came before it. Knowledge is passed on and rediscovered with every passing era to make new knowledge that will again be recycled to allow further expansion of that energy. As Plato said, "What we call learning is only a process of recollection." I wanted to use the ancient ideas of this concept with modern representations of today; hence, the contemporary clothing and hairstyles and electronic devices, but with reference to ancient examples of wisdom, strength, science, art and commerce. The owl, the olive tree, the gorgon all symbolize Athena and Minerva. The setting is sketchy, dream-like, but also rough and layered - just like searching for knowledge can feel. Here I wanted to portray a glimpse of Athena sharing her old knowledge to her newer self - Minerva.

Inspiration for my work usually stems from nostalgic and current events found in literature, nature, and popular culture. Although many of my past work and my commissions portray a more realistic style, my more recent work concentrates on form in subjects. By equally examining the areas that exist within subjects - both obvious and subordinate - and concentrating on the relationships of juxtaposing shapes, lines and colors, the patterns of form reveal inevitable diversity that reflect the fleeting beauty in everyday life.
