Striking a harmonic balance between classical composition and modern disposition an original oil painting by Alexander Sheversky speaks to an appreciation for the vocation to contemporary realism. Each canvas is stately and monumental. The interplay of light and shadow and especially Sheversky's inherent understanding of light bring a life to the painting that resonates and lives before the viewer. Whether it is a figurative study or a still life its own existence is captured by the emotive values of light itself that the artist exhibits, thus embodying the living, omnipresent nature of the subject. And so a Sheversky painting espouses a marriage of the meticulous detail of classical technique to that which is clean, modern, and conceptually crisp. Alexander Sheversky was born in Kishinev, Moldova and started studying art while apprenticing with his father, a professional mural painter. An artist hailing from a family of artists and being raised in the discerning artistic environment of Russia, Alexander was nurtured by an environment highly appreciative of classical realism. As a graduate of the I.E. Repin Academy and as one who exhibited in galleries in Moscow and gained recognition and critical acceptance shortly thereafter, Alexander's devotion to the techniques and history of classical European realism occurred early in his development. In 1998 he moved to Canada, where he currently resides. During the course of 2010 Alexander has been offered a series of outstanding opportunities to exhibit his art in two national museums: the National Arts Museum in Kishinev, Moldova (July, 2010) and the Odessa State Museum of Fine Arts in Odessa, Ukraine (Aug, 2010), each of which were curated by experts in their fields and shown to discerning audiences. His work has already been captured in a retrospective book "Alexander Sheversky. Contemporary Realism", published in 2007.
