And to not see things that are. The rock hangs from a cloud, the rose casts no shadow, but a shadow from a non-existent bird is present. Trompe l’oeil, or “Fooling the Eye” is an art form that began in the Renaissance when artists learned to depict an object so accurately that it appeared real. Falling in love can literally change our view of the world. It disturbs our reality in such a way that the definitions we once gave to certain things as ‘real’ are no longer relevant and anything is possible. I love being in love for exactly this reason.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute.
