Etymologically, creativity comes from the Latin word “creō” which means “to create, to make”. In modern language, the word “creativity” implies the sense that we know today – the human capacity to create. Creativity influences our everyday life. Creativity and imagination represent two key elements for the artistic field and there are both similarities and differences between the two processes. Creativity can cause some special mental processes and inner moods; these make us think sometimes of the source of the creativity and the fruits resulting from the creative work. In her artwork, “The Reverse Side of Creativity”, Dariya Afanaseva refers not only to the origins of an artistic piece of work but also to the elements that can influence it, in one way or another. It is not easy at all to create art using products derived from consumer goods, especially when they don’t have a utility any longer. In her artwork the artist gathers, preserves and assembles usual items such as stoppers of champagne bottles immortalizing them into a unique work of the genre. The artist seems to tell us, in her own artistic manner, that success can be measured in a way so simple – by the amount of champagne bottles cut loose after each event.
