I love to jump on my bike, and explore the surrounding countryside. On one of these trips, I came across a meadow and saw these two black beauties. They are Holstein Friesians (often shortened to Holsteins in North America, while the term Friesians is often used in the UK), a breed of dairy cattle originating from the Dutch provinces of North Holland and Friesland, and Schleswig-Holstein in Northern Germany and Jutland.

The painting comes without a frame. I always paint the sides of the work, so that the scene carries over to the edges. This way there is the option of not framing. I also wire my paintings. Thus, the work is totally finished and ready to hang.

1964, Schiedam,The Netherlands, Clara Bastian. After attending the art academy (ABK Rotterdam) Clara Bastian (1964) obtained a foundational course in biology, a study that met her fascination for anatomy. Her oeuvre consists of commission portraits as well as free work. Her free work does not only show her mastery of the trade, but above all her original view of reality. The intriguing portraits of animals and people that Clara Bastian makes are painted with great skill. With the reproduction of texture, light and shadows her work seems almost more realistic than a photograph… http://www.dutchcows.com http://www.clarabastian.com
