This work is a response to Frida Khalo's painting "Two Fridas." I lived in Mexico City during the early part of my twenties and would visit Frida's home/museum at least once a month. I feel connected to her story and have always wanted to create a work in response to her extremely emotive and self-reflective double portrait with a sense of irony that her image is now iconic throughout the world, that we can find her face and body on coasters and socks, as included in this mixed media pair of paintings.
