About The Artwork

Limited edition giclee print on paper from an original oil painting. Proofed, signed and numbered by the artist, with certificate of authenticity. The idea for this commissioned painting was inspired by Annie’s story about her son, James. An American living in England, James is married to PJ, another man who is not a US citizen. As gay marriage is not recognized by US Immigration, they cannot return here without his husband risking deportation. If he were married to a woman, it would not be an issue. The sand castle (which he loved making as a child) symbolizes the ideal world that would allow her James and PJ to return to his home country- one in which all unions of love will be treated equally and with the same reverence. A world that we are all waiting for and creating. And the bird gazing across the sea represents Annie longing for her son to return home.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, and worldwide. Corporate collections include Fox, Warner Bros and NBC Studios, Royal Caribbean International, Marriott Hotels, Scripps and Stanford Hospitals; and his works are featured in numerous contemporary art publications.
