About The Artwork

Photography: Black & White on Other, Plastic, Aluminium. BW copy of ambrotype. The ambrotype is a direct positive monochrome photographic process. It is a wet collodion glass plate negative which when viewed against a dark background looks like a positive photograph. The choice of the term "ambrotype", from the Greek "ambrotos" meaning "imperishable" or "immortal", is probably linked to the durability of the glass base.Original glass 13x18 cm also may be sold.

I'm Gala, photographer from Russia. I'm 47. My practice is based on an experimental approach to early photographic processes and my interest in the materiality and fragility of a photographic medium - glass plates. Specializing mainly in the wet plate collodion process, traditionally used for portraits and landscapes, I create pointless images that are between photography and suprematist geometry. I appreciate the simplicity, immediacy and imperfection of the work received. I am looking for forms that reveal the mood and feelings of connection with the reality surrounding me.
