About The Artwork

Limited edition 1 of 25 + 2AP. Signed and numbered behind the image. 30"x20" inc. 1" white border on all sides Printed on Fujicolor Crystal Archive Digital Pearl Paper. Digital Scan of the original negative. This series of work has been collected over a period of 15 years. The beautiful and sometimes more perfect by-product of a career shooting commercial photography and filmmaking on traditional media. These images were usually discovered at the ends of exposed rolls of film, at the very edge between the safety of the light tight cassette and the bright outer world. When scanned at high resolution, we are able to view the unique and special ways light reacts with the medium of film, without any camera or lens to try and formalise it. True portraits of light, without intervention or direction. Images that seek span the divide between photographic process and abstract painting. Each image is named after the process index of the original roll it came from. A sort of heritage stamp that sometimes allows for a few clues into it's year and origins, without placing too much added theoretical weight. It has always been my intention to present the images unfettered by form and theory. As unencumbered by human interaction as possible.

Rollo is a photographer and filmmaker. Globally represented in over 14 territories, but based in the UK. He came into the art world indirectly, having studied photography he ended up spending 15 years working up the ranks of the film industry. Working firstly as a Director of photography, then a Director. Having always pursed photographic projects along the way It wasn't until he started collecting work for the Afterglow series that he made a meaningful connection between both practices. A long term proponent for shooting with traditional process, both in photography and moving image lead to both the birth of his current art practice and also it's continued exploration and development.
