About The Artwork

The photo belongs to my series Borderline. BORDERLINE The Kunene river is a natural border between Angola and Namibia, with two well known falls: Epupa and Ruacana falls . Epupa means waterfall in Himba language. This place, despite tourism and poor ecological education, is currently one of the last places in Africa where the local population has a life suspended between modernity and tradition, without conflicts. This idyllic (for the Himba) situation will be upset and destroyed if the dam project is carried out in this section of the Kunene river, a project born many years ago, but still pending mainly due to lack of financial support. The people living at Epupa Falls are more residential than the semi-nomadic typical himba tribes, but around this spot there is a large area currently hosting Himba groups, that would be affected by the flood created by the dam. The English title of my photo work , with its numerous meanings, refers to a border, the Kunene River, but also to something else: first , the uncertainty given to Himbas by the dam project on the Kunene, which will cancel a sort of Eden so far from the frenetic pace of urbanization. Second, who is borderline in the psychiatric sense? For me, not Himbas !

2021-Giuseppe Potente Photographer Curriculum Vitae born 1950, 07th of January, in Italy Based in South Africa and Italy https://www.instagram.com/potentegiuseppe/ SHORT CV I have been passionate photographer for many years, from 1978 to 1988. After a long interval, I decided to dedicate most of my time, energy and resources to photography, from 2012. I have recently joined the Camerapixo Press Team as free lance photojournalist. I am a lifestyle, portrait and fine-art photographer, Italy-born, living and working both in the Western Cape, South Africa, and Europe. I had a strong influence from humanistic photography. My photos, apart from the portraits, are unposed, not staged, and are usually part of specific story telling or a project that try to communicate to the "readers" the poetry, rather than the hardness, of life that vibrates in the images. I want to speak lightly and not with surgical precision. I love to experiment with new visual approaches, while maintaining acquired preferences. I prefer to work on my personal projects. I use film and digital photographs, printed on high quality papers. Recent published activity 1.Commended in Sony WPO 2014 for People Photography, 2.
