About The Artwork
Without light in some form, there is no photography. It is both the source of its existence and a fundamental element in the alchemy of its making. The ‘Aegean Light’ series explores the beauty of light within a set of confined parameters – an area of 10 square meters, over a period of 75 minutes, provides a wealth and variety of images by altering the viewpoint and recording the changing quantity, quality and colour of the light. I was born on a Tuesday at 10.40am in San Juan de Dios Hospital in Manila, the capital of The Philippines. As the old nursery rhyme goes, 'Tuesday's child is full of grace' - others can be the judge of that, but I do know that my love for travel began here. In 1977, I started freelancing as a photographer for publications in the UK and internationally and have become known for my environmental portraiture, interiors, architectural, travel and documentary photography. My work has been published in a number of magazines including: Conde Nast Traveler (US), Conde Nast Traveller (UK), Departures, Discover, Forbes, Fortune, GQ, Guardian Weekend, Harpers & Queen, House and Garden, Image, The Independent, The Independent on Sunday Review, Newsweek, Oxygen, Saga, The Observer, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, Vanity Fair, Vogue, W, The Weekend Financial Times, The World of Interiors. For my gallery photography, I make limited edition single, diptych, triptych and multiple images, in colour and black and white.
