About The Artwork

I photographed this young, purebred Arabian stallion on location in Jordan in 2008. As with all my horse pictures, I set up a studio backdrop with lighting in the stables. Then the horse was brought out. Each horse reacts differently to the strange scene that it encounters, some are a bit nervous, others a bit excited, others quite calm. This horse, Al-Bashir, was very cool! As I started taking the pictures he gradually relaxed even more, and even became playful, as can be seen here, tossing his dark head and mane from side to side. Such a wonderful creature!

“It is only with the heart that one can truly see. What is essential is invisible to the eye" ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "The Little Prince" When I like a work of art, it is because I am drawn to it emotionally. Without knowing why, I instinctively know how it makes me feel. Beauty and simplicity, celebrating the aesthetic, silencing the noise and transcending the mundane, everyday realities, allowing fragments of memories to feed into present experiences, exploring what resonates within. I seek emotional engagement, to have the feeling of the night, not to just see it as it is. This is my approach to image-making. ~ Over a period of 25 years, I learned my craft working in advertising and design and on art projects and exhibitions. I gradually developed a style that resonated with the truth and emotion that I was seeking. Recurring themes in my work relate to identity, and belonging. I have exhibited in numerous shows internationally, and have won several awards. My prints are owned by art lovers and collectors worldwide, and are included in several public and private collections. I now spend much of my time working on art projects and tutoring in photography and photogravure printmaking in my ancient farmhouse studio in Spain. I combine creative interests with a healthy lifestyle connecting to nature, working on my organic farm, and being with my wife and our family of Saluki dogs and Arabian horses.
