About The Artwork

The limited-edition (1/9) pigmented inkjet print is printed by a master printer on archival paper, signed by the artist, and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity Color photography with digital amalgamation...other sizes available on request. Alice in Wonderland...Lewis Carrol’s Victorian novel (1865) ...portrays a young woman...my heroine...who struggles with understanding the feminine passage to womanhood. As young females...we often endure the romantic quest to find our identity...to understand the logic of the rules of society and the authority that we so often push against to claim our equality… This symbolic image of Alice... peering into her life through this glass... is where she observes the chaos of her existing environment......and struggles to understand how she can find balance in this upside-down world. Alice did it! ...She ultimately found her identity in her search...and illuminated the path for females on their quest for seeking their own identity and female equality. Alice learned from her experiences...ultimately becoming mature...dealing with problems. She made good and bad choices ...as we all do when finding our new true selves. Ultimately she matures... .and in her progression illustrated that it is possible to find balance in a chaotic world.

Kat Moser explores the potency of the female form and the otherworldly aspects of earth and water through her elegant, ethereal and often enigmatic photographs. By envisioning age-old cultural narratives first experienced in fairy tales, mythology and legends, Moser allows the viewer to revisit mystery and imagination through fresh eyes. Moser was drawn to photography from the world of fashion. Her daily interactions with women in the creative, couture-like setting of her destination boutique, Nouvelle Eve, led her to appreciate the rich diversity of women’s individual beauty, both externally and internally. Moser’s ever-deepening exploration of the true nature of female beauty impelled her to eventually leave the world of fashion to focus on her photography, which increasingly had been recognized by galleries and collectors for its entrancing explorations of women and nature. Using a converted infrared camera, Moser often depicts women as wholly integrated elements of the natural environment, ranging from peaceful bodies of water to rugged, unforgiving terrains, and representing both the beauty and strength of her dual subjects. Sometimes hazy and dreamy, other times stark in their clarity, each photograph serves as a window into the special places that exist just beyond the shadows. Over the years, Moser has studied with photographers Joyce Tenneson, Doug Beasley, Elizabeth Opalenik, Aline Smithson, Dan Burkholder, and Connie Imbodem and counts among her influences Clarence John Laughlin, Deborah Turbeville, Sarah Moon, and Duane Michals. Her studio is based in Snowmass, Colorado, but has photographed in locations throughout the United States and overseas. Her photographs have been widely exhibited over the past two decades, and her work is included in numerous corporate and private collections. Artist Statement... Ethereal, mystical, spiritual—these are just some of the words I use to describe my work. All three represent the primal connections we have with Mother Earth and her female qualities. I am deeply moved by the powerful, yet often unseen worlds that surround and link us to life's profound mysteries. This is my creative challenge when making photographs, which lead me to focus my camera on the feminine form, quiet waters and natural landscapes. Whether hazy and dreamy or stark and clear, each final print serves as a tangible reminder and potential window into these special places that exist just beyond the shadows.
