Statement: Just as there are two sides to every coin without changing its true value, every person has a special connection with their inner world without the need to compromise. The notion of being able to see and identify the other side of yourself is what makes everybody different and special with relation to their environment and other people. By emphasising a connection with one’s natural background or concentrating on a specific personal fragment is what helps to achieve this understanding of beauty or being distinct. The series focuses on the man and his fascination, or otherwise the opposite reaction, with his own body. By isolating the point of focus in every image, I wanted to invite the viewer to imagine himself in the same place behind the “wall”. Whereas by introducing the subtle contrast between the nude part of a body and the covering shield in the form of a desolate, crumbling wall, as if to blend into each other, I also wanted to intrigue and provoke an emotional response within the viewer that could only be interpreted by him/herself. I found the use of colour would be a distraction to create the desired effect. Yet I left the principal greenish/blue cast so as to suggest the proneness towards the age, whereas the cracked texture also suggests the fragility of the environment.

I am equally a strong advocate of the phrase “picture is worth a thousand words” and therefore try to make the viewers feel as though the only interpretation they can give to the context is the one found within their own imagination."
