Lynne Deutch's life and career is one of transformation that has thrived on the component of continuous motion. From moving across the country to traveling across the world, her arc has followed one of creativity and exploration. Lynne's endeavors began in her home state of Ohio where she attended classes at Akron Art Institute starting at a young age. Her passion for art and design is not a recent development, having taken many forms and covered many mediums across decades of education and involvement. As a child Lynne spent time designing clothes for her paper dolls, an interest that would ultimately translate to time at the prestigious Parsons School of Design where she would study Fashion Illustration. After a successful period in New York, Lynne moved to Detroit where she got married and began raising her three sons. While living in Michigan, Lynne became a member of the Detroit Institute of Art and it was here that her advocacy for the arts began in earnest. In 1980 Lynne made her next big move, this time to Los Angeles. Her involvement with the arts intensified following this transition, becoming a founding member of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) the same year she arrived in California. She has been a long-time supporter of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where she is currently a member of the Curator’s Circle. A businesswoman as well, Lynne spent almost a decade running a successful upscale corporate and retail gift company on Melrose Place called Lynne Deutch Ltd. Lynne's most significant contribution during this time was the introduction of rare and elegant Italian gifts to North American markets, many of which are still staples in American boutiques. Using her design background, Lynne was known in the industry as a trendsetter for her high-end mailers and catalogs, setting the standard still followed today. This knack for discovering international craftsmanship, along with numerous trips to Europe and China, led to a burning desire to engage with places and cultures more deeply. Lynne's first experience with travel was as a child in 1958 when she and her family went to Cuba. Years later, that country would serve as the epicenter of a new artistic realization. After returning to school and receiving a Bachelor of Science in Studio Art from Skidmore College in 2004, Lynne worked to develop a portfolio of figurative works on canvas, which were noted for their rich embodiment of mood and body language.
