About The Artwork

This Cold War relic is a visual reminder of the Cuban presence in the island of Grenada between 1979 and 1983. This old Soviet Antonov Airliner still lies on the now defunct Pearls Airport and did not stand well the test of time. The aircraft is rusted, covered by vegetation and very unstable and dangerous to explore inside. Still, I was able to take some photographs and add the piece to the Forgotten Places collection.

I have always enjoyed taking pictures of foreign lands and pretty sights, but I found myself frustrated with the quality of my images and I wanted to capture more than just what was before my eyes. When I decided to move to Canada from Brazil back in 2003, I barely knew what a SLR camera was. Film was still big and I remember seeing a digital camera twice in my life before that. And mostly of my pictures back then were taken with a small point and shoot film camera. So before embarked in journey to a place full of beautiful scenery, I decided to take a photography course - to take some nice pictures from my trip. And that photography course changed my life. Once in Canada, I kept shooting. I also joined a few camera clubs, and my photography style kept evolving. Until one day I realized that I had too many images sitting on my computer. And I never printed them. My next step was to learn how to print my pictures. I have learned not only how to print the images, but also the techniques on camera to ensure the images could be printed with excellent results. Primarily using gallery paper on high resolution printer, which gives the quality of fine art prints found in art galleries. And then I started exhibiting my photographs in art galleries, restaurants and craft shows. It was great to experience the many different ways people react to my photographs.
