Description: This work responds to the Willow Pattern invented by English craftsmen in the late eighteenth century. I am interested in how a foreign culture can be appropriated and translated into a form of exotic collectibles, subconsciously tucked into the local culture. In relation to this, I chose to create a set of paper earthenware printed with cyanotype and embellished with imaginary landscapes made up by oriental architectural structures found within the UK. This process challenges cyanotypes association with blueprint by positing the question of origin and the sense of fluidity and instability of culture.

b. Malaysia. My practice involves investigating the process of cultural translation within the context of postcolonialism. I am interested in examining the residues of this process in which attempts to translate or assimilate was made but at times result in an unexpected and incoherent manner. I collect cultural artefacts and symbols, subject to my current place of residence; the site will be the site for artistic exploration and excavation. Subsequently, the cultural meanings will be studied through the socio-political axis juxtaposed by selective individual nostalgia. I am particularly interested in exploring the vernacular.
