About The Artwork

For over 20 years there has been a dead tree that lies on the beach. Over the last few months big seas have deposited a lot more trees on the beach. From where they come from I have no idea but here they lie at Lands End. For some reason I had an idea to go to the west side to shoot sunset. I listened to my intuition and am glad I did as the tide was just right to catch little swirls of water around the trees. As the sun got lower the colors in the sky started to pop and enabled me to create this almost surreal portrait with tangerine tones. I use metallic photo paper and face mount the art to glare reduced acrylic. The back is made of Die-bond and easy to hang hardware is included.

I live life with passion and am fortunate to have found two activities that give my life joy and purpose. I am an active diver and photographer and go to the sea at every opportunity. When not underwater, I can be found exploring the beaches and landscape of Hawaii. Over my career, I have worked as a dive instructor, photo pro, and expedition leader in Palau, Yap, Fiji, Tonga, Indonesia, and & Papua New Guinea. When not traveling, I lead photo workshops and create family portraits in Maui. Prior to Covid-19 I operated Koholā Gallery, which had locations in Kaanapali and Wailea. Limited and open edition prints of whales, marine life, seascapes, and landscapes we offered. Sharing images of nature, the sea, marine life, and whales with people that have experienced these things allows them to relive powerful emotion and memories. What is even more rewarding is the impact the images have on people who are unable to travel, dive, snorkel, or do strenuous hikes. Windows of the world are opened that would otherwise be closed and people are able to gain new appreciation and understanding of things beyond their personal experience.
