A man's body appears to be suspended off the ground performing endless feats of masculine agility high above the Spanish sea. As a child, my father would promise to buy me a sky-hook that would hover high above and take me anywhere I would desire. In a dream, I would fantasize about this sky-hook as a method of escape, taking me to places where I would be desired and celebrated. I would perform great feats from my hook and at times this would give me great freedom of sexuality. Freud identified this re-occurrence in a dream as the pleasure of sexuality by spectatorship. Two years prior to shooting this story, I met an Aerialist performing incredible gymnastic feats, within the confines of a club in Barcelona called Oscar Bustos. In that same year, on a pebbled beach front near Sitges in Spain, I shot a gymnast friend jumping with his legs and arms spread like an eagle, high above the Mediterranean’s horizon. Following the trip to Barcelona, like my dream, I had become the visual spectator. By juxtaposition, I imagined an aerialist attached to my sky-hook performing incredible feats of masculine agility, high above the ocean. The print is a Giclee print on Hahnemühle German Etching paper and is available framed or unframed (the price quoted is for the verified print alone).
