About The Artwork

NOTE: Please allow for extra printing time of 3 - 5 business days. Logo will NOT be on print "Basilica di Santa Chiara" Basilica di Santa Chiara, Basilica of Saint Clare in English, was built in early Gothic style between the year 1257 - 1265 and sets on the lower part of old Assisi, Italy overlooking the valley below. Chiara was a friend of Francis and left her stately home to follow him. In 1252 on Christmas Eve, Clare was bed-ridden and upset that her illness prevented her from Mass at the newly constructed Basilica of St. Francis. She was blessed with a vision of the Mass from a few miles away, which led to a modern Pope to declare her the Saint of Television in 1955. Chiara died on August 11, 1253 in Assisi. She was canonized quickly, like Francis had earlier, by Pope Alexander IV on September 26, 1255. Basilica di Santa Chiara is where Clare is entombed. It had been rainy for the drive to Assisi. Once in my hotel room, I walked out on the balcony and saw the sun illuminating this beautiful Basilica. The rain still covering the valley and mountains made for a dramatic scene to be captured. © Imagery by Charly/Prints of Italy | All Rights Reserved • Limited Edition of 1 only - 24" x 20" (60.96cm x 50.80cm) image dimension, with white border approx. 5/8" added. Hi there. My name is Charly and I’ll admit I’m addicted to photography. Like most people have taken photographs off/on my whole life, but it wasn’t until traveling to Ireland that I realized I truly loved it. That trip brought out my passion for Natural Light Photography. The light, the shadows, and overall intensity that I could capture with a camera were simply astounding. Photography presented itself as more of an art form then just snapshots from life. Since that trip I have been honing my skills; focusing on landscapes, architecture, nature and my favorite ... Black and Whites. Call me old fashion, but I think photographs are more striking with the absence of color. In fact, besides my digital camera, I have a 35mm film camera, a Holga, starting to work with large format cameras and of course only shoot B&W film. These days my cameras are an extension of me; always there. Learning that although I didn’t think I was very creative, the camera was just the medium I had been searching for. I have been fortunate to receive numerous awards for my work. Having my work recognized was humbling and has definitely been a highlight of my career. I hope you enjoy my photographs as much as I enjoyed taking them. Thanks for stopping by!
