When we stand on the edge of the largest wilderness that we know so little about, we are dressed in costumes worn expressly for this environment. We are not part of this environment, and most of us merely skim the surface. I have removed the structure of the beach and the ocean to accentuate our vulnerable, yet practical form, which in turn allows us to regard ourselves. The lack of details invites the viewer to complete the image. Sometimes we appear weary or serene, other times, controlled or confident. I like the emotions that emerge when the human figure is isolated or solitary. I feel it gives us an opportunity to allow this isolation to speak visually about identity and explore the inner world of human beings - as turbulent as the ocean itself can be. The paintings of Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer and Vincent Van Gogh have always spoke to me about an unaccompanied life - not lonely - simply isolated or solitary. Their works often depict introspective solitary people and this aspect is a point of origin and a muse for this series. Each print is an original, and I use professional printers to create my photographic prints on archival Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultrasmooth Matte paper, using archival pigment inkjet inks. This white cotton art paper has a matte, bright white, smooth surface and most importantly offers superior longevity. If you are interested in a custom order please feel free to contact me.

I fell in love with photography as a young child when I “borrowed” my parent’s old Brownie Hawkeye to take pictures around my neighborhood. Later I was given a Kodak Instamatic 104 and expanded to street photography. I continued to explore photography while I pursued my career as a professional book designer, production artist and typographer. I've lived and worked in New Jersey, New York City, northern New England, Colorado and currently Los Angeles, where I enjoy exploring neighborhoods on foot. Walking for hours on city streets and taking photos is my idea of a great day.
