VIEW IN MY ROOM
From the Garden of Eden Series. This photograph was made on a discontinued Kodak Infrared film using a 4x5 inch bellows camera. The beauty and magic that I feel when doing this work is quite moving. I love doing this work as it has such strong historical roots. I have 73 sheets left and want to make each one of them as powerful and beautiful as I can. Thanks for reading!

I believe that now is the time to accept that earth is the Garden of Eden. We must cherish and protect it or face annihilation by our own negligence. When you were a kid, did you ever lay on your back, on the side of a hill, and look up at the sky? There is beauty, wonder, even magic in those moments. This is what photography is like for me. This is where my pictures are made. They come from that feeling. It doesn't matter where that happens, it can be anywhere. It's not about parks, beaches, lakesides or mountains. It is about connecting with that energy. I think it is love. I think we all know that feeling. Step closer, these prints invite you to enter the magic. Art and photography have been in my blood for over 50 years. I was born in Fort Erie, Ontario and was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I started doing photographs in 1973 and immediately felt that I had discovered my medium. I wouldn’t say that I was a natural but I when I commit to something it’s serious. I live to create pictures and am especially interested in large format photography. I love really old cameras. I have two, one made in 1906, the other in 1947. I love looking at the image on the ground glass, under a focusing cloth, examining it with a magnifier. I feel the roots of photography when I am shooting with them. One of the things that keep me working is the quality of my photographic experience. Working with large format cameras allows the unique experience to see the world differently. On the ground glass, the image projected by the lens is upside down, flipped left to right and holds a beauty that I find to be almost meditative. I believe that beauty and compassion are essential, especially today. I want to feel that there is a path to healing our planet that is available to all of us if we only stop and appreciate what surrounds us. I make big prints and place a high value on my work. Seeing things in black and white offers us an opportunity to look beyond our expectations. A big print gives you the opportunity to enter into the picture, to feel with your eyes. Seeing a picture is one thing, looking into that picture is something else entirely.
