Bird on a Wire - Limited Edition of 10 Photograph

I snapped this one night in Newtown, Wellington, New Zealand, just because the cloud was so impressive, and there happened to be a blackbird on the power lines, which provides quite a dramatic anti-thesis to the cloud, which is a beautiful feather-shaped "wing" of cloud. I love the hues of the cloud, Byzantium, Byzantine, Apricot, Burnt Sienna, Brink Pink, Brilliant Rose, Cadmium Orange, Cotton Candy Pink, Blue Crayola, Blue Jeans, Bitter-sweet, Blush, and Bisque. The yellow-gold sunset dying on the horizon provides the third element of contrast as the hills, rooftop, and power lines provide the dark structures of the foreground, providing the image a unique sense of time and place, which is also familiar to those who live in suburban New Zealand. I have a song called "Bird on a Wire" -it's the same title as a Leonard Cohen song (which is absolutely beautiful -and a classic...) ~but it has nothing else to do with his song, lyrically musically or thematically. My attitude is that it's perfectly OK to take use a title -so long as the song doesn't even vaguely represent the original. After all, it's very difficult with 70 years of Rock and Roll history surrounding us, not to do something that can be compared to any other earlier work... Having said that I don't think there's an excuse for plagiarism. I think the cloud in this image is extraordinary -and the seen is so ordinary -yet another way in which New Zealand casually undermines your expectations. "Bird on a wire" I use as a metaphor for a beautiful woman who can sing -and has her own wings. I think what I've written will surprise you.
