‘Bloody Chunks Series - Edition of 5 + 1 AP *WINNER* PDN Ultimate Music Moments Award 2014 During my time living in Vietnam i started to document the heavy metal scene in Saigon. Between 2012-2014 I noticed a breakaway group of bands and dedicated fans were getting into more extreme types of metal music known as – death, brutal, raw and grindcore. These sporadic gigs would take place in 80’s style mirrored disco’s, run down shopping malls at the city’s limits and in people’s living rooms, sometimes shut down at the last minute. These impromptu DIY underground metal shows form the basis of Bloody Chunks. Giclée fine art print - 310 g.s.m. pure white, museum-grade Baryta paper, offering maximum longevity. Suitable for high contrast black and white images. All listed print dimensions represent actual image size. All prints will have a 2" white border. Neil Massey (b).1970 After studying photography at Bournemouth Art School, I spent the following 15 years based in London working as an editorial photographer. During this time, I travelled extensively, commissioned to photograph musicians and youth sub-culture. Identity a theme I have been exploring ever since. 'The Film Collection' (1999-2005) represents my work from this period. In 2009 my wife and I moved to Vietnam where we lived for six years. We fell in love with Vietnamese culture and its people, we witnessed a communist country embracing capitalism and undergoing rapid economic and cultural development. This provided the backdrop to a series of long-term photographic projects; ‘Untitled', 'Bloody Chunks', 'Song', and 'Monobloc' which make up ‘The Vietnam Collection’ (2009-2015). This body of work explores Vietnamese life, in all its raw unadulterated beauty. I'm Currently based in London working on a photographic body of work entitled ‘Trace’ and I am also working on a multi-media collaborative project entitled 'Vietnam KIN'.
