About The Artwork

Boxgrove Priory near Chichester in West Sussex, England has a long history. It was originally a Saxon church site, then taken over by a Norman landowner after 1066. In 1532 Lord De La Warr ordered the painting of the truly beautiful ceiling. The church and grounds have the graves of the Dukes of Richmond and of Queen Adeliza, King Herny I's wife. Nearby has been discovered 'Boxgrove Man'; a 500,000 year old skeleton of Homo heidelbergensis - the oldest known skeleton in Britain. This a place of true beauty and historic interest. It contains the dedication window to hero Pilot Office Bill Fiske, the first American to die in World War II.
