River Kwai # 2 Light and Sound show at the Bridge Over The River Kwai in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. (1992) This 10 days’ event commemorates every evening in a very realistic way the bombardments of the Bridge over the River Kwai against the Japanese occupation during World War II. This eleven span bridge had been dismantled by the Japanese and brought to Tamarkan from Java in 1942. There were two bridges, one wooden and this bridge. Both were subjected to numerous attacks by Allied aircraft during the period December 1944 to June 1945. One span of the steel bridge was destroyed in a raid mid February 1945. Two more spans were dropped during raids between April and June 1945. Image size: 20W x 12.8 Print size: 20 x 24. I grew up with photography as my father worked as a reporter/photographer in the late 1940s to the early 1950s, before he became involved in the aerospace industry. Through him I became fascinated with the magic of photography. I began to take photo classes in college and later attended Art Center College of Design, graduating in 1976. I had a small studio on Sunset Blvd through the late 1980s then did a trip to Thailand and decided to move there in 1990. Over the years I have worked for Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, and done assignments for The United Nations, Newsweek, Gamma Liaison, Getty Images. Animal Planet, Homeless International and other organizations in Asia.
