About The Artwork

This picture is part of the series called "Hills Tribes". During my almost decade long travels, I have met and spend a significant amount of time with various indigenous minorities mostly from Indochina, Siam,Tonkin and with Tibetan origin. While there, I was privileged to experience their traditional way of life and the photographs I have taken there were meant to document it. Inspired by Edward S. Curtis, I hoped to preserve the existence of these extraordinary ethnic races of mankind before they disappear forever.

Photographer, director & co-founder of the World Wide Tribes Heritage foundation. A photographer by calling, Mr. Gagnadoux engages in a vast array of visual inquiry. Working as a professional for over 27 years, he had an amazing opportunity to create images addressing plethora of subjects. His ethnic works for example explore remote environments and indigenous themes drawing heavily on his extensive travels. His portraiture on the other hand sets out to capture the essence of each character type he comes in contact with. His creative passion has led him early on to study art, photography and audiovisuals in his native France. Following formal education, he was chosen for six consecutive years as the official photographer of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts - an official partner of UNESCO. During those years he had developed a deep interest in the customs, traditions and history of different world cultures. At the heart of his ethnic series lies his sincere wish to commemorate and preserve those cultural aspects, the ethnic peoples themselves and the environment which they inhabit. Mr. Gagnadoux spent also over ten years traveling the world, photographing the streets of such great cities as Damascus, Haman, Beirut, Peking, Samarkand and Istanbul. The history of man, his relation to nature and all that surrounds him is a constant source of interest and inspiration to him. In 2006, he made a very special journey along the Silk Road and through the old French Indochina and Tonkin in the Southeast Asia. Since then, he has focused much of his photographic endeavor on that region and the ethnic minorities that live there. Thanks to this experience, he was requested to create pictorials for the French press ... Photo, Photo reportage, Glamour as well as for Polish publications ... Poznaj Świat, Machina, Foto. He also collaborated with the Chinese TV „Shangri La” to create documentaries.
