Physalis, more commonly known as the Chinese Lantern, is a plant so named for its bright orange, balloon-shaped flowers which resemble small paper lanterns. As light passes through them in the process of making a photogram (a cameraless image somewhat like an X-ray in its delineation of a skeletal structure) they give rise to singular creatures that could just as easily inhabit the deepest fathoms of the sea as a celestial realm light years from Earth. This series investigates the capacity of light to both reveal a subject’s framework and transform it into something entirely new. This is an archival pigment print mounted on 1/8 inch aluminum with a 3/4" wood backing.
