About The Artwork
Cactus Mood No.2 is a photograph developed using a procedure called Cyanotype that was developed in 1842. This process was primarily used to produce copies of drawings or blueprints. This process is done by coating watercolor paper with iron salts to make it light sensitive thereby allowing me to develop a negative with the use of the sun to make a positive image. When the paper is washed, it turns a Prussian Blue or Cyan Blue as it's known. For this photograph, I developed in a shorter time frame to achieve a lighter blue look. Photo is accented with variegated Italian Copper leaf for an extra touch. I took this photo in Palm Springs California, a favorite place of mine filled with mid-century vibes. I'm starting the second act of my life through the lens of my camera and an interest in the alternative photography processes from cyanotype, a historic process from 1842 where photography is developed in a cyan blue tone, digital intentional camera movement, where photographs look like abstract paintings, glitch, deconstructing photography, and digital manipulation of my work adding unique color hues giving an other worldly look to landscapes. I have a photography love of botanical, landscapes and items with lots of contrast and imperfections which makes for beautiful photographs. I love that after raising my two daughters, being known as mom, employee, wife, and care giver, that I am now a photographer and an artist.
