ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is an original Chemigram artwork created in our Studio in Lincolnshire. The Chemigram is 7x5 inches and created using Ilford Paper, various resists such as wax, photographic chemicals and light. It is mounted in a cream mount measuring 9x7 inches. Chemigrams are a form of experimental art. Chemicals are applied to light sensitive paper either by painting directly onto the paper or by dipping the paper alternatively into different chemicals. Various resists such as honey or oil can be applied to the paper to change the way it reacts to the chemicals. Each Chemigram is a unique piece of art owing to the way the chemicals and light react. The first Chemigram-like image is reported to have been made in 1725 by Johann Schulze. However, Belgian Artist Pierre Cordier has been credited with inventing the modern Chemigram in 1956 and he has gone on to pioneer its development.

John and Rebecca began merging their individual skills into photographic prints in 2016. John began his career in photography working primarily with animals and aviation. Both required an understanding of how to convey the dynamics of the subject through the camera. Rebecca worked extensively in the performing arts industry as a performer, dancer and freelance choreographer. Their abstract and minimalist prints evolve in the studio as a joint venture. Their aim is to express the kineticism and interweaving of the model or subject with other materials. This is achieved using a variety of mediums and in-camera techniques to create the design. The use of digital intervention is kept at a minimum. John and Rebecca live in Lincolnshire where they spend time creating their popular impressionist prints that reflect the beautiful coastlines and landscapes around them. When not working on their photography, Rebecca is a fitness and dance teacher and creative writer. John collects and repairs vintage cameras and studies modern and historic photographic techniques which he applies to his work For further information visit or email
