About The Artwork
Silver Gelatin print (2/2). Printed on Ilford Multigrade fiber based paper (Matt) and selenium toned for archival purposes. Exhibited as part of my solo exhibition "Dreams & Designs II. This photograph is a tribute to the Chipko movement of the seventies started in Uttarakhand, North India. Chipko means "to stick" in Hindi. Villagers, especially women, hugged the trees for several days to ward off the contractors who had been sent to fell trees. They managed to ward off the contractors and the movement spread to other villages and states. This prevented uncontrolled deforestation.

I started my career in a regular 9 to 5 job. About 20 years ago, I decided to pursue my passion for photography. I did a course at the International Centre of Photography in New York. I continued my learning at the Photographic Society of Singapore where I did a course on Black & White photographic techniques as well as a course on Colour Slide photography.
