About The Artwork

For 25 years, I have been working on projects that I summarized under the name “Brain Art”. These works are about the development of a colour code system, which operates only in using the colours. These abstract pictures depict objects that surround us, but just their colour codes, not the things as such. These objects include not only landscapes, plants and beings, but also industrial products and their marketing, their packings and their advertising. The influence that colour codes have on our subconscious, is huge. Colours give us impulses that lead to either positive or negative reactions onto any object. We do get these impressions by the colours way faster, than our brain can recognize these objects themselves and do make our decisions led by these colour codes without noticing the reason for the reactions. These lead to, in simple words, either consent or danger. It is all done by our limbic system that is far older than our actual cerebrum. In past projects, I have explored the colours that marketing uses for their product packings. At the moment, I am working on my current series, colours of precious stones, minerals and diamonds. The Brain Art series have become known throughout Europe with more than 100 exhibitions in art galleries and museums. In 2004, I was chosen by KODAK to be "Artist of the Year" and had an exhibition at the Photokina 2004, in which more than 40 artworks were displayed. In the press information hereafter, you can get an insight into these works. The current series I am presenting here shows colours of Plants and flowers. Instead of the object itself, you see a color code and Original Plants. Collage, Drawing, Painting, Manipulated Photography The 2 pictures is exposed in a profi laboratory for artists from canvas and mounted on 4 cm thick wooden frames. The world that the works of Andrej Barov present, seems strange and bent at first glance. Suddenly we realize something familiar to us, and an effect of déja-vu arises. This is caused Barov deals in his art not with the image of the visual reality that our eyes provide but with the impression of what corresponds to our cultural memory. Whether historical allusions, fragments of works of art or media phenomena, everything we have created with our human creative spirit, is the reality Andrej Barov is looking upon. In this sense, his artistic process is a look on the inside, into the depths of our brains and our collective memory. He tries to explore the relationship between media and historical events, revealing interesting parallels and showing a mirror of past and present. With his projects, he also deals with the aspect of presenting a suitable appearance and reasonable visual language that make this adventure possible. With considerable knowledge and technical precision, he formed elusive nuances of our conscious; exciting images that evoke countless reactions within us and bring up materializations in our subconscious. In this exciting worldview, today meets tomorrow and the past is changing unnoticedly from the present to the future.------------------------------------------------------------ Professor Dr. Dr. Christian Moosbrugger, Vienna
