Depression (Edition of 5) Photograph

This photo is part of a project entitled "The place where I dissolve my inner conflict", made of 4 photos. This series represents my intimate parts meeting: the two people are both self-portraits. Those are expressions of my Ego. The first is the socially correct self: scared from others’ judgment, it absolutely doesn’t want to show alterations in its state of mind and minimises its emotions. In my photo it faces a second expression of my Ego which is trying to avoid, its counterpart represented by a strong emotion that is kept alive by a hidden and continuous thought. Paradoxically the former won’t survive without the last. I live in a strong inner conflict until they don’t meet, often not knowing it. When I allow the antagonistic selves to encounter, I am firstly frightened from the dreadful clash that inevitably happens, then I slowly accept my inadequacy and fragility. Being at the same time the photographer behind the camera and the two characters allows me to represent in the material world the inner space where this encounter happens, a place not belonging to it but still existing and real. This space is the place where I dissolve my inner conflicts. This series was shown at the solo exhibitions: Looking at Looking into, La Linea Arte Contemporanea Gallery, Rome, Apr 2013 Doppi, MAD Gallery, Rome, Apr 2014 and at the group exhibition XX International Prize Massenzio Arte, Istituto Superiore Antincendi, Rome, Sept 2016 It is an edition of 5 prints, each accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
