About The Artwork

One of my favorite past times is traveling. I like going to new places and discovering unique things. I shot this image at the end of an outdoor photo shoot during a sweltering. It was a self-assignment focusing on Urban Decay. Although, I prefer to think of it as Urban Nature. Urban Nature/Decay is fascinating to see and watch over time. For some, it is an unmistakable sense of loss as they have to leave something behind. However, mixed in that sadness is also a change, hopefully for the better. Also, watching nature reclaiming something we think of as permanent. The bugs and the heat were very intense at that location after about 45 minutes of exploring and being careful not to touch anything. The bugs won. I began to pack up my gear when I saw the old shed-like structure. The thick vines grew in and around the shed like fingers reaching out. I could see the picture in my mind, and I took it quickly and finished packing up. Photography, for me, is a mixture of documentary and expression. I enjoy the process of seeing an image I shot to shape and form. Whether film or digital, I still get the same thrill working on a photo I made. I made several prints over the years. The largest one I ever made is 12x12". The image can be printed much bigger, and those sizes are available here on Saatchi Art. It's been a while since I have shown the piece, and I thought it might be nice to bring it out again.
