About The Artwork
The work is based on maths in nature (the portrait) and constructed maths in the form of fractals. The original idea came from looking at facial tattoos from the Maori (Ta Moko). I choose fractals because it shows the most beautiful way in which maths can be displayed. I combine the symmetrical patterns of fractals with the portrait or body. I print these images on metallic paper to enhance the colours and the image to give a slight 3D effect. Mounted on black Foamex with battens.
