About The Artwork

I would sketch, sculpt, etch or paint if I had the skills, but I don’t. Photography is the tool I have to express myself. Imagining while creating. Exploring. Still learning. My original photo art is digitally manipulated photography impressions and interpretations responding to what I see. Archival pigment prints are available in many sizes. Doodle 6 In Response to Ornette Coleman's "Science Fiction" was created after hearing the music performed on September 3, 2016 at Millennium Park in Chicago by the Bad Plus. Artists included Ethan Iverson piano, Reid Anderson bassist, drummer Dave King, Tim Berne on tenor sax, Sam Newsome soprano sax, and Ron Miles playing trumpet. The music moved me to look up Coleman and his free jazz music style as I waited for my bus ride home after the concert. Wikipedia says, "... Free jazz is an approach to jazz music that was first developed in the 1950s and 1960s as musicians attempted to alter, extend, or break down jazz convention, often by discarding fixed chord changes or tempos. Though the music of free jazz composers varied widely, a common feature was dissatisfaction with the limitations of bebop, hard bop, and modal jazz that had developed in the 1940s and 1950s..." I've been working through my own dissatisfaction with how photos look, how my photos look, and am exploring different styles and effects that express what I want to say and show. Here is one of my results.

I was a street photographer responding to lines, color, people and places long before I realized what I was doing or how it influenced the direction my life would take. Grew up on the original black & white LIFE magazine, eager for its arrival every Thursday, instantly studying all the photos. That is where my concept of photography formed and where my desire grew to become a photographer. I worked in other industries yet nothing satisfied me as much or meant as much as taking - making - pictures. I have been a self-taught freelance photographer for almost 40 years. I create original photo art - fine art images - sold from my studio, my web site and through a few select online galleries. Commercially, I shoot environmental portraits, photograph events, and develop documentary projects for a variety of nonprofits, corporate clients, and government agencies. I work as a partner with clients, helping them to maximize the strategic power of pictures. My images are used for PR, communications, image building, income development, and marketing.
